The European Specialty Accreditation Boards (ESAB), are operated by individual UEMS Sections/ Boards, European Specialists Societies/ Federations or jointly by these organisations.

They form a network which cooperates and shares experience in accreditation of European Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities. ESAB achieved an important level of harmonization between their operating accreditation systems.

The work of ESAB is not competitive, but complementary to national accreditation read more.

All Boards work according to the Quality Criteria of the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), published in the document D9908 (PDF, 81 KB).

The network is open to European CME Accreditation Boards or Committees applying EACCME/ ESAB minimum quality evaluation criteria for international CME activities.

In November 2005, ESAB jointly sent a Position Paper to EACCME proposing an efficient cooperation model for European CME accreditation, under its umbrella.

The proposal aims at formalizing and improving the existing system.
